Make Your Own Christmas Decoration | Silversmithing Workshop Bristol

Create a contemporary Christmas decoration by hand at Flux Gallery in Bristol. Spend 2½ hours exploring traditional silversmithing techniques, adding your own textures and personal details to a piece you can bring out every Christmas.

With just four participants per workshop, there’s plenty of individual guidance and room to develop your ideas. Make something for your own tree or gift a one-of-a-kind decoration, beautifully boxed and gift wrapped.

What you’ll make

One substantial handmade Christmas decoration, approximately 50 × 50mm depending on your design, in copper or sterling silver.

Choose from Flux-designed templates and inspiration pieces, including a Christmas tree, textured star, bauble or bell. Follow a template or adapt the shape, proportions and surface details to make it your own. We’ll help you develop a design that works within the session.

What you’ll learn

This hands-on silversmithing workshop in Bristol introduces techniques also used in jewellery making. Working from a prepared sheet of your chosen metal, you’ll:

1. Choose and adapt your design.
2. Transfer it onto the metal.
3. Saw and pierce your decoration.
4. File and refine the edges.
5. Hammer and texture the surface.
6. Add simple stamped details or personalisation.
7. Finish and polish your piece.
8. Add a hanging loop and ribbon.

You’ll receive guidance throughout. No previous jewellery-making or silversmithing experience is required, and those with some experience are welcome too.

Choose your metal

• Copper: £55 per person.
• Sterling silver: £95 per person.

Each booking includes the metal needed to make one decoration, use of workshop tools and equipment, and tuition throughout the 2½-hour session.

A little Christmas at Flux

Settle into a relaxed, small-group making session with Christmas music, alcohol-free mulled wine, festive drinks and Christmas snacks. Your finished decoration will be presented in a Flux jewellery box and gift wrapped, ready to hang or give.
